Life Care Centers of America’s Whatever It Takes And Then Some program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in caring for residents, their families and fellow associates. Here are three of the inspiring stories from our June 2019 winners:
Julie Ward, human resources, payroll and accounting clerk at Life Care Center of Banner Elk, North Carolina, cut out, taped and laminated “credit cards” for a resident with dementia who was often upset when she couldn’t find her credit cards. Ward’s thoughtfulness and creativity brought comfort and peace of mind to the resident.
Lorelei Harsha, nurse at Life Care Center of the Willows in Valparaiso, Indiana, wanted to show her appreciation to the nursing assistants for their diligence in providing excellent care. On the night of the facility’s spaghetti dinner, she bought meals for all the nursing assistants on both sides of the building. Harsha is a team player who made sure other associates knew they were appreciated.
Vergil Flores, nursing assistant at Life Care Center of Casper, Wyoming, is using his culinary experience to benefit residents. Whenever a resident goes into comfort care, he brings them an edible arrangement of fruits that he cut himself. Additionally, when a resident wanted pizza and a soda after dining hours, Flores personally made sure the resident had what she needed and was comfortable and happy.
